Position Title: Pre-Press Graphics Manager

FLSA Classification: Exempt
Reports To: Operations Manager

Position Summary:

The Pre-Press Graphics Manager oversees the activities of the graphics personnel to ensure customer satisfaction and company profitability while maintaining departmental quality standards. He/she manages policies and procedures; reviews workflow, equipment, and staffing needs to ensure deadlines and cost requirements are met. The Pre-Press Graphics Manager works in conjunction with the Operations Manager on structural and strategic decisions as well as setting process with in the Graphics Department. He/she ensures training of employees and works with the Operations Manager for discipline and performance review decisions. The Pre-Press Graphics Manager communicates with all team members the status of jobs in process, and milestones achieved in meeting goals and objectives.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises the primary work centers within the graphics area including: pre-flight, production art, and plates; ensuring production is flowing and all work centers are staged to plan.
  • Responsible for the delivery of quality production ready artwork, proofs, digital files and plates to meet strict internal and external timelines and scheduling requirements.
  • Develops art standards by studying the departmental workflow for effectiveness to ensure that all processes and procedures are documented and followed.
  • Initiates collaboration with employees and management to maximize efficiencies by identifying and removing bottlenecks within or between departments.
  • Ensures adherence to all quality control processes and procedures and actively supports the company's internal audit program.
  • Responsible for maintaining the preventive maintenance and calibration schedules for all graphics equipment.
  • Responsible for proper staffing, training and coaching and counseling of departmental employees. Recommends personnel actions such as hiring and promotions.
  • Provides employees with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems and in resolving escalated complaints or disputes.
  • Resolves customer complaints and answers customers' questions regarding policies and procedures.
  • Proactive servicing of customers by anticipating their needs and maintaining an internal voice for our external customers.
  • Recommends and implements measures to motivate employees and to improve workflow methods, performance, quality, or efficiency.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all departmental software, equipment, and work techniques.
  • Maintain detailed technical knowledge of Phenix Label's manufacturing capabilities.
  • Makes recommendations for departmental upgrades by keeping current with industry and technology advancements.
  • Ensures the work conducted within the graphics area is performed in a safe and efficient manner and potential safety concerns are addressed immediately.

  • Individual must be able to handle administrative activities, maintain records, reports, or files. This includes the preparation and maintenance of employee records and documentation.
  • Individual must be able to complete any reasonable request of management necessary to effectively operate the department/company.
  • Participation and support of the company mission statement, five core values, non-negotiables, and 5S initiatives and activities.

 

Position Specifications:

  • Previous printing and management experience preferred.
  • Preferred 4 year degree and 2-4 years relevant experience.
  • High school diploma / GED / or equivalent required.
  • Candidate should possess basic mathematical skills.
  • Candidate should possess a strong work ethic, time management and troubleshooting skills, a positive attitude, and be detail oriented.
  • Candidate should be familiar with word processing and other basic computer skills.
  • English language required.

 

Physical and Other Requirements:

Requires face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams, opportunity to make decisions without supervision.  Requires being exact or highly accurate, meeting strict deadlines, and working with others in a group or team. Regularly required to stand; walk; talk; sit; listen; and have vision capabilities that enable reading and viewing a computer screen.  Requires working with external customers and suppliers. Requires occasional travel to customer sites. Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people, includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting. Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
